This bill requires Indiana school corporations to post a copy of the ten commandments in every classroom and library in the school. The ACLU of Indiana opposes this bill because of its clear violation of church and state.

The Constitution guarantees Americans the freedom to practice whatever religion they see fit and protects Americans’ right to be free from religion. Requiring that the Ten Commandments be posted in public schools violates both of these principles.

Further, nearly identical legislation is currently blocked by a Louisiana judge. Instead of waiting for the courts to resolve that case, Indiana lawmakers would rather waste Hoosiers’ tax dollars on what is sure to be a lengthy legal battle.
