The Huntington Sheriff refused to allow ACLU of Indiana attorneys to have confidential in-person visits with prisoners who have sought our services. The ACLU of Indiana has received letters from people incarcerated in the Huntington County Jail who are seeking legal assistance. But when Legal Director, Kenneth Falk, contacted the Huntington County Jail to set up a visit with these individuals, Mr. Falk was directed to the Jail Commander, Jeff Kyle. Commander Kyle told Mr. Falk he could not enter Huntington Co. Jail to visit prisoners, and that he could only contact them by mail, or visit via video or phone through a third-party service that is not confidential.
A settlement is pending.
